PPS donates to The Padley Group – “It’s time to give”

17/08/2023

PPS Group X The Padley Group

Our Social & Environmental Group

At the beginning of July, the PPS Group launched its Social & Environmental Group for 2023. At PPS, we believe it is important for employees to focus on something other than their day-to-day work while also helping the environment and local community; consequently, our Social & Environmental Group was born.

The group consists of employees from the PPS group (PPS, GW Containers, and Alison Handling). The team meets on a regular basis to brainstorm ideas for what we can do as a business to aid the environment and the local community, as well as to bring some social activity ideas to the table.

It’s time to give.

One of the suggestions made at our July 2023 meeting was to do more for charity. Our Marketing Manager then began looking for local charitable work in which we could participate. Arabella then discovered the Padley Group, a humanitarian organisation that has been assisting people in Derby who are at risk of homelessness, poverty, and hunger since 1985.

The Padley Group was looking for donations of food, toiletries, and kitchen necessities. As a result, PPS developed our “It’s Time to Give” collection. We had urged all of our staff to donate to the food bank for three weeks. Padley Pantry cooks delicious hot breakfasts for our beneficiaries in the morning sessions and hot two-course lunches in the afternoon sessions at the Day Centre. People who are struggling can be referred for emergency parcels of food, toiletries, and/or clothing to be collected from the Day centre.

Over three weeks, the PPS group in Marchington managed to pull together two whole food crates worth of donations that we could then take to the Padley Centre.

On August 4th, Arabella, our Marketing manager, got the pleasure of dropping off the donations at the centre. We spoke to an employee at the Padley Group who said, “We are very grateful for any donations, from yourselves and other businesses. Foodbanks really struggle around June, July, and August because things go a bit quiet before all the food from Harvest festivals comes in September and October, so thank you to PPS for all your help!”

Arabella, our marketing manager, was full of praise and said, “My heart feels extremely full today, and I’m incredibly proud of our team at Marchington for pulling together for such an amazing charity. It was lovely to speak to the guys at the Padley Group when organising the drop-off, and seeing how grateful everyone was for our donations was a very eye-opening experience. I can’t wait to be able to help The Padley Group again in the future!”

Future Planning

Our social and environmental group is always generating ideas to help the environment and local communities. We are currently back in conversation with the Padley Group about helping to get a small team together from PPS to go help sort Harvest Festival donations at The Padley Group sorting centre.
