Sustainability
REDUCE COSTS. HELP THE PLANET. CHOOSE PPS.
At PPS, sustainability is a fundamental principle of our business. Our Returnable Transit Packaging offers a comprehensive solution that benefits your bottom line while positively impacting the environment. By choosing PPS, you’re not only investing in a high-quality product but also contributing to a more sustainable future.
A Circular Economy in Action
Our commitment to sustainability is evident in our strategic approach. We actively collaborate with our customers to eliminate single-use packaging from their supply chains, identifying tailored returnable solutions that meet their specific needs.
By providing comprehensive services, including washing and asset management, we empower businesses to reduce their environmental footprint, promoting a circular economy and maintaining operational efficiency.
Our journey to a sustainable future:
Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond our products and services. We established an in-house Social & Environmental team in 2021 to proactively identify and implement initiatives that reduce our environmental impact. This team has been extremely successful and personally fulfilling for all members. Among the opportunities in which we have been involved are:
- Litter picking in both Uttoxeter and on Grimsby and Cleethorpes beaches.
- Donating to food banks in our local community.
- We held our own PPS Green Week, during which we participated in a variety of environmental activities and celebrations.
- Working closely with the Globe Foundation, which was founded in our hometown of Staffordshire, to improve the health and wellbeing of people and the planet through environmental education and awareness, and to reduce our impact on the climate.
- Stopping the use of single-use plastics in our offices and factories and investing in more sustainable products, such as company water bottles.
Social Responsibility: A Core Value
We believe in the power of social responsibility and actively support initiatives that make a positive impact on communities.
By collaborating with organisations like Recycling Lives Charity, we contribute to job creation, offender rehabilitation and food distribution, fostering a more equitable and sustainable society.
Working with Recycling Lives allows us to create jobs for people who face multiple disadvantages, bringing them one step closer to normal life and bringing about long-term change.
How introducing Returnable Transit Packaging promotes the circular economy and improves sustainability:
Many businesses are switching from single-trip packaging – such as cardboard and polystyrene – which due to the nature of the product play a large part in packaging waste, much of which may end up in landfill. These businesses have reduced their waste and carbon footprint by making the switch from single-use packaging production
Even when single-trip packaging is recycled, there is still a large amount of energy and natural resources required in order to repeatedly manufacture and recycle this expendable packaging. This is where reusable packaging can significantly reduce energy usage, raw materials and minimise landfill. Furthermore, the Packaging Waste Directive in the UK focuses specifically on avoiding packaging waste – something which has led to a rise in the popularity of returnable solutions.
Increased protection of the products in transit – minimising environmental costs of damage
Returnable Transit Packaging is designed to be more durable and robust than single-use alternatives, offering superior protection for products during transportation.
By minimising damage in transit, businesses can significantly reduce the waste caused by spoiled goods. This not only saves money but also reduces the environmental impact associated with disposing of damaged products and potentially remanufacturing or shipping replacements.
Minimising Co2 through more efficient transit
Returnable Transit Packaging can significantly reduce CO2 emissions by optimising transportation efficiency. Its standardised dimensions and durability allow for efficient stacking, maximising vehicle capacity and minimising the number of transport journeys required.
Additionally, empty packaging can often be collapsed or nested, reducing the need to ship unnecessary air and improving storage efficiency.
By transitioning to Returnable Transit Packaging, businesses can experience significant advantages. Our solutions offer:
- Reduced waste: Minimise landfill waste and reduce the need for single-use materials.
- Enhanced product protection: Protect products during transportation, reducing damage and minimising waste.
- Optimised transportation efficiency: Improve transportation efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions, and minimise fuel consumption.
- Cost savings: Benefit from long-term cost savings by reducing the need for single-use packaging and associated disposal costs.
But what happens when our Returnable Transit Packaging becomes damaged?
Our Returnable Transit Packaging is robust, durable, and has a long lifespan, but due to the demanding environments it is often used, damages are possible. But broken and damaged products don’t mean end-of-life products! Our repairs service means we can repair damages to reusable packaging products, extending their lifespan and saving you money!
And in the rare instance that our repairs engineers can’t fix the damage that has occurred, the product isn’t simply discarded and added to the expendable packaging being sent to landfill.
We work closely with Venture Polymers, a leading plastic recycler to ensure that nothing goes to waste, giving you peace of mind and avoiding the issue of plastic waste.
